FOX ESS CQ7-M is a low-voltage 7.02 kWh LiFePO₄ battery module and the starting point for any CQ series storage system. The letter M marks its leading role: this is the unit that carries the control electronics tying all connected blocks together. Operating voltage is 57.6 V, weight 50 kg, dimensions 660 × 360 × 190 mm and protection rating IP65.
A 120-month warranty is the headline argument
Ten years of warranty on a residential storage unit is not common: the typical market offer is five. For a buyer this is not an abstract line in the paperwork but a shift in where the risk sits. The battery is the most expensive element of a storage system, and its condition determines when you will have to invest again.
Combined with a 6000-cycle rating, a ten-year warranty produces clear economics: at one cycle per day the module will work for more than sixteen years, and for most of that time it stays under the manufacturer's obligations.
What IP65 protection gives you
The enclosure is sealed against dust and water jets from any direction. The practical consequence is simple: you do not need to set aside a dedicated room for the battery. The module can hang on a garage wall, stand in an unheated outbuilding or mount on an exterior wall under a canopy.
For most private homes that removes the hardest part of the project — finding space. Both wall and floor mounting are supported, so the solution adapts to the room rather than the other way round. Natural-convection cooling means no fans at all: no noise and no filters to service.
Why seven kilowatt-hours is a convenient step
Seven kilowatt-hours is a well-judged increment. The module is neither so small that you need six of them for a decent capacity, nor so large that you pay for reserve you never use.
A single module covers the evening and night for moderate consumption: lighting, refrigerator, router, boiler, television and a few sockets. Two modules give 14 kWh, which is enough for most private houses with a day's margin in economy mode.
The master module's role in the system
Exactly one master module is needed per system — it handles data exchange with the inverter, monitors the state of every block and balances charge between them. CQ7-S expansion modules attach to it and carry no control logic of their own.
The purchase order is therefore always the same: the CQ7-M first, then as many CQ7-S units as your capacity requires. If you are ordering a system for the first time, this module is mandatory in the set.
Installation in practice
Fifty kilograms is a mass two people can realistically handle, but for the wall option the wall must be solid. Aerated concrete, foam concrete or plasterboard without through-fixings will not hold that load: within a few years the mounting will start tearing out along with a piece of the wall.
The second thing to think about in advance is temperature. IP65 protection allows the module to sit outside the heated envelope, but charging lithium cells in hard frost is restricted. If the system will stand outdoors, plan at least minimal insulation for the recess, or choose a spot on the south side of the building.
