FOX ESS H1-5.0-G2-WL - single-phase hybrid inverter 5 kW.
Description FOX ESS H1-5.0-G2-WL
FOX ESS H1-5.0-G2-WL is a single-phase hybrid inverter rated at 5 kW for use with high-voltage LiFePO₄ batteries. Two independent MPPT inputs with an 80–550 V range, battery charge and discharge current up to 40 A, and generator support. Mass 22 kg, dimensions 434 × 418 × 185 mm, 5-year warranty.
Forty amperes of charge current is this model's headline figure
That is noticeably more than most single-phase hybrids of this rating, where 25 amperes is typical. The difference determines how quickly the system replenishes its reserve.
A practical scenario: a sunny winter day is short, and the battery must be charged within those few hours. An inverter limited to 25 A physically cannot pass more into storage than that constraint allows, even if the panels are producing plenty. Forty amperes removes the bottleneck: the charging window is used in full.
The same applies to discharge. A higher limit means the battery can deliver more power at once — exactly what is needed when a pump or compressor starts.
LiFePO₄ chemistry on the battery side
The inverter is designed for high-voltage batteries of the lithium iron phosphate type specifically. For a domestic system that is a sound choice: the chemistry is thermally stable, tolerant of deep discharge and offers greater cycle life than other lithium formulations.
For the owner that means equipment which sits comfortably in or beside a dwelling. The one thing to remember is that low-voltage modules at 48 or 51.2 V will not work with this inverter — storage must be selected as high-voltage, from the manufacturer's compatibility list.
Generator support
A function worth assessing at the design stage. A hybrid system with a battery covers ordinary outages but has a limit: if several overcast days in a row coincide with a prolonged absence of mains, the storage will run out.
The ability to control a generator closes that gap. The inverter starts the engine, charges the battery to the required level and shuts it down. The house then runs from the battery again — quietly, with no exhaust and no fuel consumption. That is more economical and more comfortable than keeping a generator running around the clock.
Technical figures
two independent MPPT inputs, 80–550 V range;
peak efficiency 97.08%, European weighted 96.3%;
MPPT tracking accuracy above 99%;
nominal output current 22.7 A, maximum 25.0 A;
integrated DC switch, panels connected via MC4;
reverse polarity and short circuit protection, all-pole residual current monitoring.
On mass and installation
Twenty-two kilograms is appreciably more than comparable models from other manufacturers. The reason usually lies in the power section and heatsink design, and mass in itself is not a drawback: a more substantial heatsink means steadier operation under sustained load.
It does complicate installation, however. A unit of this weight is lifted by two people, and the wall must be solid: aerated concrete or plasterboard without through-fixings is unsuitable for twenty-two kilograms on a bracket. Take this into account when choosing the mounting position in advance, not on installation day.
Specifying a hybrid system starts not with the inverter but with a list of what must keep running during an outage. Send us that list — we will calculate the power and battery capacity required, and say whether this particular model is justified in your case.
