GoodWe GW5000M-ES-20 - single-phase hybrid inverter 5 kW.
Description GoodWe GW5000M-ES-20
GoodWe GW5000M-ES-20 is a single-phase hybrid inverter rated at 5 kW for low-voltage LiFePO₄ batteries (40–60 V). Two independent MPPT inputs, charge and discharge current up to 60 amperes, mass 20 kg, 5-year warranty.
A 5 kW hybrid: what that gives in real life
Five kilowatts is the rating at which backup power stops being a survival mode and becomes simply the house working normally. The difference shows precisely in everyday small things.
With three kilowatts you have to think: can the washing machine go on now if the pump is running? With five there is no such thought — lighting, refrigerator, boiler with pumps, washing machine, computers and television all run at once with no need to switch anything off.
This is not a question of specifications but of whether you notice the outage at all. That is the point of stepping up to five kilowatts.
60 amperes of charging at 5 kW of power
Sixty amperes at around 48 volts gives roughly 2.9 kilowatts of flow into the battery. Against 5 kilowatts of output that means charging happens more slowly than discharging — and this is worth understanding before buying.
In practice the limit shows in one specific scenario: when you have drained the battery over the evening and want to restore the reserve quickly from the grid in the morning. A full charge cycle takes roughly three times longer than a full discharge cycle at maximum power.
For most domestic scenarios this is no problem: the sun shines all day and the panels replenish the battery gradually. The question arises only in regions with very short windows of mains availability — there it is worth looking at models offering 100 amperes.

How much battery this model needs
The most common mistake is buying a powerful inverter and pairing it with a minimal battery. The result is a system that can do a great deal, but not for long.
A practical rule for a five-kilowatt hybrid: size the storage from ten kilowatt-hours upward. A smaller reserve means that under active consumption the system will run three or four hours and stop.
The second rule: the battery must accept the current the inverter delivers. Not every individual module will take sixty amperes — often two parallel blocks are required. Check this against the specific storage datasheet rather than assuming.
Installation
A mass of 20 kg calls for a solid wall and two people. Plan the battery beside the inverter — at 60 amperes every extra metre of cable costs money and adds resistive losses.
Two MPPT inputs allow the panel array to be split into two groups of differing orientation. For a hybrid system that is particularly useful: a flatter generation curve across the day means the battery fills gradually rather than trying to absorb everything within two midday hours.
A properly specified hybrid system is a matched trio: inverter, battery of the right capacity, and a well-considered group of backed-up loads. Tell us what must run and for how many hours, and we will size all three together.
