Description DigiTOP VP-63A M2W

DigiTOP VP-63A M2W is the most powerful model in the DigiTOP single-phase voltage relay line, designed for a nominal load current of 63 A. This is the upper limit for single-phase connection of a household switchboard: if the load exceeds this level, it is usually a matter of switching to a three-phase input with separate relays for each phase. VP-63A M2W is suitable for a large house with an electric stove, a powerful boiler, several air conditioners and underfloor heating over a significant area at the same time.

What does a relay protect against?

The upper limit of the shutdown is set in the range of 210–270 V, the lower limit is 120–200 V, the range of the measured voltage is 50–400 V. In case of overvoltage, the shutdown occurs in 0.02 seconds - critically important when a lot of expensive equipment is connected to the network at the same time, because the risk of simultaneous damage to several devices is higher than in a panel with a lower load. At a reduced voltage in the range of 120–170 V, the relay withstands a pause of 1 second, and below 120 V it also disconnects instantly.

Zero crossing and unstable frequency protection

The zero transit function is especially critical here: the more powerful consumers are connected to the shield, the more serious the consequences of a break in the neutral conductor - the voltage in one of the phases can jump so much that all the expensive equipment in the house fails at the same time. The relay also works correctly with unstable network frequency, which is important for facilities with their own high-power generators.

Installation and practical tips

The relay is mounted on a DIN rail immediately after the input circuit breaker, occupying only 2 modules of 17.5 mm. The reclosing delay is adjustable in the range of 5–600 seconds in 5-second increments - this is especially important for facilities with several compressors operating simultaneously (air conditioners, refrigeration equipment) to avoid peak load on the network when all devices are restarted simultaneously.

Key specifications

  • Rated load current — 63 A, maximum — 80 A
  • Measured voltage — 50–400 V, indicator — white
  • Upper cut-off limit — 210–270 V, lower — 120–200 V
  • Re-activation delay time — 5–600 s (step 5 s)
  • DIN form factor, 2 modules of 17.5 mm, IP20
  • Manufacturer's warranty — 5 years

A rating of 63 A at 220 V is about 14 kW of total power, the maximum for a single-phase panel. Before purchasing, it is worth making an accurate calculation of the total load of all consumer groups together with an electrician: if the need is already approaching or exceeding this level, it is wiser to immediately plan a three-phase input with separate DigiTOP relays for each phase. ComfortLife consultants will help with this calculation and select a complete set of protection for the panel.

Practical tips for connecting

The relay is installed immediately after the input circuit breaker, before the division into separate groups, - the entire electrical network of the house is protected by one device. On large panels with several relays of different ratings, it is worth drawing up a single-line connection diagram in advance together with an electrician so that during maintenance it is clear which relay is responsible for which group. Before the first turn on, be sure to check the correct connection of the phase and zero at the terminals - mixed wires are the most common cause of incorrect operation of a newly installed relay, especially on objects with a three-phase input and parallel use of several single-phase relays.

When to consider an alternative

If the actual load of the panel consistently exceeds 63 A, or if further powerful devices are planned (for example, a charging station for an electric vehicle), it is wiser not to try to "cram" everything into a single-phase circuit, but to immediately design a three-phase input. In this case, a separate DigiTOP relay of the appropriate rating is installed for each phase, rather than one limit relay for the entire network.
