History and development path

The history of Metabo did not begin in a factory workshop, but in a bakery: in 1923, in the German town of Nürtingen, the young Albrecht Schnizler assembled the first hand-held drilling machine himself in his parents' family bakery. The device was called "Metallbohrdreher" - literally "metal drilling machine", and it was the abbreviation of this name that gave the brand its future name. The model with the designation No. 18 sold in a circulation of 50,000 copies, which gave Schnizler the capital and confidence for the next step: on February 19, 1924, together with Julius Kloss, owner of the Sonnenbrauerei brewery, he founded the company Schnizler GmbH, placing the first production directly in the premises of this brewery on Kirchstrasse.

In 1927, Walter Rauch joined the partnership, taking over the development of national and international sales, and in 1932 the company was renamed Metabo werke Closs, Rauch & Schnizler KG - a name that finally established the Metabo brand in the power tool market. More than a century has passed since then, and during this time Metabo has gone from a family workshop to one of the most respected manufacturers of professional power tools in Europe, and since 2016 has become part of the international Techtronic Industries group, while retaining its own German engineering DNA and production facilities.
