Who are IMOU?

IMOU is a smart security brand that makes video surveillance and security accessible to the average user, not just professional installers.

The company grew out of the consumer IoT division of Dahua Technology , one of the global leaders in the video surveillance market. In the mid-2010s, IMOU focused specifically on home and small business solutions: easy to install, with mobile control and cloud services.

Today, IMOU products are sold in dozens of countries around the world, and the company declares a focus on innovation, user experience, and a low threshold of entry — so that even a user without a technical background can configure the security system.

A brief history of the IMOU brand

Beginning.
Around 2015, Dahua formed a separate line of IoT products for the consumer market — the future IMOU brand.

Official launch.
In 2018, Dahua officially introduces IMOU as its own brand for consumer IoT : "home" cameras, video intercoms, cloud services. The brand's mission is to transfer professional video surveillance technologies into simple and affordable solutions for home and small business.

Ecosystem and cloud.
Further, IMOU is actively developing a cloud platform ( Imou Life , I mou Protect ), a mobile application, and AI functions — recognition of people, vehicles, sound, smart scenarios, etc.

Global growth.
In less than a decade, the brand has reached hundreds of millions of connected devices and is already operating in more than 100 countries around the world, remaining in the "smart security for the end user" segment.

IMOU products: what is included in the ecosystem

IMOU is building not just a set of cameras, but a complete ecosystem of devices and services.

CCTV cameras

On the brand's website, cameras are divided into several main lines:

• Wi-Fi Indoor Cameras – compact pan and tilt cameras for apartments, houses, and offices.

• Wi-Fi Outdoor Cameras – outdoor models with backlight, siren, IP66–IP67 protection.

• 4G Cameras – a solution for places without stable internet (cottage, warehouse, temporary facilities).

• Wire-Free Cameras are completely wireless, battery-powered cameras that are easy to install without wiring.

Typical capabilities of IMOU cameras (depending on model):

• 1080p, 2K or 4MP resolution for detailed images;

• night vision up to several tens of meters;

• two-way communication (built-in microphone and speaker);

• built-in siren and/or spotlight for active deterrence;

• motorized 0–355° horizontal rotation and lens tilt (panoramic view);

• AI detection of people and, in new models, separately of people and transport (IMOU SENSE).

Video calls and door viewers

A separate segment is Smart Doorbells & Door Viewers . These are video doorbells and "eyes" with a camera that allow you to see visitors from your smartphone, answer by voice, and record video when a button is pressed or motion is detected.

Smart locks

IMOU also produces smart locks that integrate with the overall security system, allowing you to open doors using a code, fingerprint, or smartphone, as well as keep a log of events.

NVR and ready-made kits

For those who need a classic approach with local recording, the brand offers NVR & Kits — video recorders and “camera + NVR ” kits. They combine the simplicity of “home” devices with the capabilities of professional systems: centralized recording, multiple camera control, long-term archive.

Additional smart devices

The IMOU ecosystem also includes other devices:

• smart sensors (motion, opening, temperature, smoke - depending on the set on the market);

• sirens and alarms ;

• smart sockets and relays ;

• automatic animal feeders ;

• Imou Robots and other IoT devices .

This allows you to assemble a complete "smart home" system with a single control center.

Software and cloud services

• Imou Life is a mobile application for iOS and Android through which you add devices, watch online videos and archives, communicate via the camera, turn on the siren, build scenarios, and receive notifications.

• Imou Protect — paid cloud plans with cloud video storage, advanced AI features, and additional security features.

• IMOU SENSE™ is a proprietary AI platform that increases the accuracy of detecting people and vehicles to laboratory-grade 99% and significantly reduces the number of false alarms.

Easy installation and daily use

IMOU relies on the plug & play principle:

• the camera connects to Wi-Fi or via cable;

• the Imou Life app guides you through the settings step by step;

• most functions are available in just a few clicks.

Most IMOU cameras have a neat, "home" design - they are not ashamed to put in a nursery, living room or reception. At the same time, there are also more "professional" outdoor models with enhanced protection, spotlights and powerful infrared illumination.

What does it look like in real life?

A typical IMOU scenario looks like this:

• in an apartment or house, you install one or two pan/tilt cameras in key areas (living room, hallway);

• at the entrance there is a video doorbell that shows who is at the door;

• on the street - an outdoor camera with a spotlight and a siren;

• All of this is tied into one Imou Life app, where you can see a map of devices, events, archive, settings, and family sharing.
