GoodWe GW5000-DNS-30 - single-phase grid-tied inverter 5 kW.
Description GoodWe GW5000-DNS-30
GoodWe GW5000-DNS-30 is a single-phase grid-tied inverter rated at 5 kW with two independent MPPT inputs and a peak efficiency of 98%. The MPP range is 40–560 V, start-up voltage 80 V, nominal output current 21.7 A. Mass 12.8 kg, dimensions 350 × 410 × 143 mm, IP65 protection, 5-year warranty.
Where those fractions of a per cent come from
Ninety-eight per cent peak efficiency is a high figure even by today's standards. The European weighted efficiency, which accounts for operation at different load levels through the day, is 97.3%.
The difference against the smaller series looks modest — 98% versus 97.2%. But what should be counted is not efficiency percentages but losses. One unit loses 2% of the energy, the other 2.8%. That means losses are forty per cent higher. On an installation generating six thousand kilowatt-hours a year the difference comes to around fifty kilowatt-hours annually — and that repeats for all twenty years of the panels' life.
Two MPPT inputs for a real roof
Five kilowatts is roughly twelve to fourteen panels depending on their rating. Fitting that many onto a single even slope is not always possible.
Two independent inputs allow the array to be split: eight panels on the south slope and six on the east, for instance. Each group works in its own regime and does not drag the other down. The same applies to partial shading — if a neighbouring building casts a morning shadow across one group, the second carries on unrestricted.
This is a feature that does not appear in the specification as an 'advantage', yet it is precisely what determines how much the installation actually generates over a year on a less than ideal roof.
A compromise in size and weight
Twelve point eight kilograms sits between the light XS series models (4.6 kg) and the powerful ten-kilowatt units (19 kg). The dimensions of 350 × 410 × 143 mm are intermediate too.
In practice that means installation requires no special preparation: two people lift the unit without equipment, and the wall needs to bear a load that ordinary brick or concrete handles comfortably. For aerated concrete, through-fixings should be provided.
Technical specifications
peak efficiency 98.0%, European weighted 97.3%;
two independent MPPT inputs, tracking accuracy above 99%;
MPP voltage range 40–560 V, start-up voltage 80 V;
nominal current 21.7 A, maximum output 23.9 A;
noise level under 25 dB, fanless cooling;
operation from −25 to +60 °C, humidity to 100%, altitude to 4000 m.
Protection, communication and certification
The inverter has an integrated DC switch, Type II surge protection on both the panel and grid sides, earth fault monitoring, and reverse polarity and short circuit protection. IP65 protection and an aluminium housing permit outdoor mounting.
Monitoring over Wi-Fi or LAN through the SEMS Portal app, integration via Modbus TCP/RTU, Home Assistant support. Compliance with CE, IEC 62109-1/2, IEC 62116, IEC 61727 and EN 50549.
Five kilowatts is the rating most often chosen for a private house, but the optimal configuration depends on your roof. Send us a layout showing the slope orientations and we will advise how to divide the panels between the two inputs for maximum yield.
