GoodWe GW4200-DNS-30 - single-phase grid-tied inverter 4.2 kW.
Description GoodWe GW4200-DNS-30
GoodWe GW4200-DNS-30 is a single-phase grid-tied inverter rated at 4.2 kW with two independent MPPT inputs. Nominal apparent power 4200 VA, nominal current 18.3 A, maximum output 20.1 A. Peak efficiency 98%, mass 12.8 kg, dimensions 350 × 410 × 143 mm, IP65 protection, 5-year warranty.
A rating that is often underestimated
Four point two kilowatts is not the most popular figure in price lists, which is precisely why it is rarely considered. That is a pity: between the typical three and five kilowatts lies a substantial group of properties that need exactly this much.
The typical case is a house that already has air conditioning and a water heater but no heat pump. Daytime consumption in such households usually ranges between three and four kilowatts, so a three-kilowatt installation does not cover it, while a five-kilowatt one will generate a surplus that has to be exported at an unattractive price.
Eighteen amperes: a check that takes a minute
This model's nominal output current is 18.3 amperes, with a maximum of 20.1 amperes. Before ordering, it is worth looking at the main breaker in your board.
If the house is connected at 16 amperes — and there are plenty of such connections in older developments — the inverter physically will not be able to deliver full output. Money invested in panels will only partly work. The issue is resolved either by increasing the connection rating through the network operator or by choosing a lower-rated model.
This is a check that takes a minute, while the consequences of getting it wrong persist for the installation's entire service life.
Two MPPT inputs and what they deliver
A 4.2 kW array is roughly ten or eleven panels. Splitting them into two independent groups is useful even when the roof looks even and unobstructed.
The reason is simple: shading appears over time. A tree grows near the boundary. A neighbour adds a second storey. A new chimney appears after the heating is replaced. An installation with two inputs weathers such changes far more calmly — only the group affected by the shadow drops, not the whole array.
Technical specifications
peak efficiency 98.0%, European weighted 97.3%;
maximum power point tracking accuracy above 99%;
MPP voltage range 40–560 V, start-up voltage 80 V;
maximum input voltage 600 V, panels connected via MC4;
output harmonic distortion below 3%;
noise level under 25 dB, natural-convection cooling.
Protection and monitoring
An integrated DC switch removes the need for a separate device in the board. Type II surge protection works on both the panel and grid sides, with earth fault monitoring and protection against reverse polarity and short circuit.
IP65 protection and an aluminium alloy housing are intended for outdoor installation. The operating range is −25 to +60 °C, humidity up to 100% non-condensing, with operation at altitudes to 4000 metres.
Monitoring is over Wi-Fi or wired LAN through the SEMS Portal app. Integration via Modbus TCP/RTU and Home Assistant is supported. Certification: CE, IEC 62109-1/2, IEC 62116, IEC 61727, EN 50549.
To avoid getting the rating wrong, two things are needed: your electricity bill and the main breaker size. Send them over — we will work out whether this is your size of installation and warn you if the supply cannot take full output.
