Three kilowatts is the most common size for a home installation

This is the rating at which most private houses begin their acquaintance with solar. The reason is simple: it is roughly what an average household consumes during the day, when the refrigerator, pump, router, lighting and appliances run in turn.

An installation of this size can cover daytime consumption almost entirely without creating large surpluses. That matters where export to the grid is unprofitable under the tariff: energy generated is used on the spot, and every kilowatt-hour saves the full cost of a purchased one.

The same enclosure as the one-kilowatt model

An interesting design detail: the mass and dimensions of this model are identical to the smallest in the series — 4.6 kg and 218 × 306 × 119 mm. Three times the power fits into the same housing.

For installation that means complete predictability: bracket, fixings, wall space and labour are the same across the series. And for the owner it means the option of taking a more powerful model without revising the design, if planning reveals that more panels will fit than first appeared.

A limitation worth knowing in advance

The inverter has one MPPT input. This is not a shortcoming but a design characteristic that sets requirements for the panel array.

A single input means all panels operate as one group and adapt to the weakest among them. If part of the array is shaded by a tree or a chimney, or panels face in different directions, output drops across the whole installation rather than only on the affected section.

The practical conclusion: this model is ideal for an even, unshaded roof slope of a single orientation. If the roof has a complex shape or shading is unavoidable, look at models with two or three independent inputs — they allow the array to be split into groups, each working in its own regime.

Installation and control

IP65 protection and an aluminium housing allow the inverter to be mounted in the open — on an exterior wall, under a canopy, on a support structure. An integrated DC switch removes the need for a separate device, and Type II surge protection works on both sides: panels and grid.

Monitoring is available over Wi-Fi or wired LAN through the SEMS Portal app. Integration over Modbus TCP/RTU and Home Assistant support are provided, so the inverter can be built into an existing home automation system rather than kept separate.
