GoodWe GW1000-XS-30 - single-phase grid-tied inverter 1 kW.
Description GoodWe GW1000-XS-30
GoodWe GW1000-XS-30 is a single-phase grid-tied inverter rated at 1 kW, the smallest model in the XS series. It has one independent MPPT input with a 40–550 V range, a maximum input voltage of 600 V and a start-up voltage of just 40 V. Mass 4.6 kg, dimensions 218 × 306 × 119 mm, IP65 protection, 5-year warranty.
Who needs a one-kilowatt inverter
The question is fair: most installations start at three to five kilowatts. This model, however, has its own applications, and in them it performs better than more powerful units.
The first case is a small panel array where nothing larger will fit: a garage, an outbuilding, a narrow roof slope, a balcony on a private house. The second is phased construction, where the first stage of a plant is commissioned on what has already been installed. The third is a standalone site with modest consumption: a borehole pump, street lighting, a small workshop, a remote post.
In all these cases fitting a five-kilowatt inverter means paying for capacity that will not be used: an underloaded unit runs at lower efficiency and costs more.
A 40 volt start-up threshold — why it matters
This figure determines when the inverter starts working in the morning and when it stops in the evening. The lower it is, the longer the plant's working day.
Forty volts is a very low threshold, reached in weak dawn light. Combined with a wide MPPT range from 40 to 550 V, the inverter stays in operation when the sky is overcast and through short winter days. For a small installation that represents a noticeable share of annual output — it is at the edges of the day and in dull weather that the difference between models accumulates.
What MPPT efficiency above 99% delivers
Peak conversion efficiency is 97.2% and the European weighted figure 96.7%. But another number is more interesting: maximum power point tracking accuracy exceeds 99%.
In plain terms, the inverter finds the operating point at which the panels yield their maximum for the current light level with almost no loss. Since those conditions change constantly — a cloud passes, the sun rises, a panel warms up — it is tracking quality rather than peak efficiency that determines real annual output.
Protection and reliability
IP65 — installation outdoors, under a canopy or on an open wall;
integrated DC switch — no separate device needed in the board;
Type II surge protection on both the panel and grid sides;
earth fault monitoring and supervision of grid parameters;
reverse polarity protection — a common wiring error does not destroy the unit;
aluminium housing and passive cooling with no fans.
Operating conditions and monitoring
The operating range is −25 to +60 °C, humidity up to 100% non-condensing, with operation at altitudes to 4000 metres. Natural-convection cooling means no fans at all — a noise level below 20 dB, so the unit is practically inaudible even next to a bedroom.
Communication is by Wi-Fi or wired LAN, with control through the SEMS Portal mobile app. Integration with third-party automation over Modbus TCP/RTU is provided, including Home Assistant. Standby consumption is under one watt.
To establish whether one kilowatt is enough for you, two figures are needed: how many panels you plan to install and how much the site consumes during the day. Send them over — we will do the calculation and say honestly if a more powerful model makes better sense.
