GoodWe GW10K-ES-C10 - single-phase, hybrid inverter 10kW with generator support
Description GoodWe GW10K-ES-C10
GoodWe GW10K-ES-C10 is a single-phase low-voltage (48 V) hybrid inverter of the ES Uniq series, which combines operation with the grid, solar panels, batteries and an electric generator. The model is aimed at private homes, cottages, offices and small commercial facilities where electricity savings, redundancy and controlled consumption are critical.
PV part: 2 MPPT and up to 20 kW from panels
For solar panels, 2 MPPT trackers are provided, and the string configuration for the 10 kW version is 2/2 (two strings for each MPPT). The maximum PV input power is up to 20 kW, which allows you to safely do DC-oversizing for real roof conditions, seasonality and morning/evening peaks. The MPPT operating range is 60–550 V, the maximum PV voltage is 600 V.
The practical advantage here is simple: the inverter better “holds” generation on complex roofs (different slopes/angles/partial shading), and 2 MPPTs provide flexibility when spacing the arrays.
48V batteries: fast power delivery and a wide range of compatible batteries
The inverter works with Li-ion or lead-acid batteries (48 V), the battery voltage range is 40–60 V. For GW10K-ES-C10 , up to 10 kW charging and up to 11 kW discharging are declared, and the maximum continuous currents are 200 A per charge/discharge.
Compatible batteries (examples from the official GoodWe list for ES Uniq 8–12 kW):
-
GoodWe Lynx Home U / Lynx Home A (depending on model and firmware version).
-
BYD Battery-Box (LV / Premium LVS / Premium LVL, etc.) for low-voltage systems.
-
LG RESU LV (LV series/models listed in the compatibility list).
-
Pylontech (US2000/US3000, Force L1/L2 and other positions marked for ES Uniq).
-
Also on the list are Dyness and other brands for low-voltage systems.
Important: compatibility may depend on the inverter firmware version (ARM) and the specific battery model - this is explicitly stated in the GoodWe document.
Reservations and “UPS Behavior”
The ES Uniq series supports fast standby switching (UPS level) < 4 ms, which reduces the risk of rebooting sensitive equipment (network equipment, video surveillance, boiler automation, server devices).
Generator support: which ones are suitable and what power
The key feature of ES Uniq is the 3-in-1 port , which allows for generator and controlled load scenarios.
In terms of electrical parameters, the inverter accepts a single-phase AC generator 220/230/240 V, in the voltage range 170–280 V and frequency 50/60 Hz (operating limits 45–55 / 55–65 Hz ). For the 10 kW model, the nominal “generator” power is 10 kVA, the maximum is 11 kVA, and the maximum current from the generator is 54.5 A.
Which generators are supported (in essence):
-
any single-phase generators with a stable sine wave and parameters within the limits given above: gasoline, diesel, gas, inverter - the type of fuel is not critical, the quality of the voltage/frequency is important.
-
Recommended power: a guideline is 10 kVA nominal (with a margin for starting load currents), and for a short time the system can take up to 11 kVA.
Parameters on the generator side for GoodWe GW10K-ES-C10
| Parameter | Value (GW10K-ES-C10) |
|---|---|
| Rated full power from the generator ZS (VA) | 10000 |
| Max. full power from generator AC (VA) | 12000 |
| Rated input voltage (V) | 220 / 230 / 240 |
| Input voltage range (V) | 170 ~ 280 |
| Rated frequency of the generator (Hz) | 50 / 60 |
| Frequency range of the generator (Hz) | 45 ~ 55 / 55 ~ 65 |
| Max. value of AC from AC generator (A) | 54.5 |
| Nominal value of AC from AC generator (A) | 45.5 / 43.5 / 41.7 |
| Rated input current (A) | 45.5 / 43.5 / 41.7 |
Note: current values of 45.5 / 43.5 / 41.7 A correspond to operation at 220 / 230 / 240 V, respectively.
In practice, the generator is used in two basic scenarios:
-
home power supply + battery recharge during long outages;
-
economy mode : the generator operates in shorter cycles, and the battery powers the “quiet hours”.
Integration with Home Assistant and openHAB (OpenHub)
For automation, it is not the “clouds” that are important, but local protocols. ES Uniq specifies Modbus-RTU and Modbus-TCP, which opens the way to local data collection and scenarios (export restrictions, charge/discharge priorities, load control via relays/contactors).
-
Home Assistant has official GoodWe Inverter integration (included as standard integration).
-
For openHAB, there is a ready-made SEMSPortal binding (pulls up statistics via the SEMS portal; the approach is convenient, but depends on the Internet connection and, as a rule, is read-only).
If “OpenHub” meant openHAB, it is optimal to combine: local Modbus for operational indicators/automation + SEMSPortal as a backup channel for history/statistics.
Parallel work and scaling
ES Uniq supports parallel operation of up to 6 inverters (for capacity scaling and more flexible redundancy). This is useful in buildings with high peak loads (workshop, pumps, air conditioning) or when a phased upgrade is required.
Installation: fast, clear, without unnecessary “quests”
Dimensions, protection and communications are important for installation. The inverter is wall-mounted, protection class IP66, typical dimensions 560 × 444.5 × 226 mm and a weight of about 29 kg (for 10 kW). Communications include CAN (BMS) and network interfaces/data exchange.
Result
GoodWe GW10K-ES-C10 is a strong option for those who need real hybridity: 2 MPPT and up to 20 kW PV, powerful operation with 48 V batteries (up to 11 kW per discharge), support for a single-phase generator up to 10–11 kVA, fast backup and convenient integration into a smart home via Modbus and popular platforms (Home Assistant/openHAB).
