REOLINK NVS12W 2TB (12 CHANNELS, WI-FI 6) - WIRELESS VIDEO RECORDER
Description Reolink NVS12W 2TB
When running cable simply isn't an option
A rented space with a no-drilling-into-walls clause, a heritage-protected building, a temporary observation point at a construction site — in all these cases, running Ethernet or PoE cable to every camera is either impossible or not economically worthwhile. NVS12W takes a fundamentally different approach from the rest of the recorders in this lineup: instead of PoE ports, it has a built-in Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) module, and cameras connect to the recorder wirelessly.
Wi-Fi 6 isn't the same Wi-Fi as a five-year-old home router
The 802.11ax standard is newer than the still-common Wi-Fi 5 and delivers higher throughput and connection stability when streaming video from several cameras over the same wireless network at once. That matters specifically for an NVR: unlike a single wireless camera, which takes up a small slice of the channel, a recorder is receiving streams from multiple cameras simultaneously, and an older Wi-Fi standard simply couldn't handle that load without picture quality dropping.
4 RJ-45 ports as a backup — not everything has to be wireless
Despite the focus on Wi-Fi, the recorder keeps 4 wired ports for cameras connected by cable wherever that's more convenient or reliable — say, for a spot right next to the recorder where running a short cable isn't a problem. That allows building a hybrid system rather than being locked into wireless-only connectivity.
16 MP recording and a 2 TB drive included
Support for recording up to 16 MP per channel delivers high detail, and a preinstalled 2 TB drive means the recorder is ready to record as soon as cameras join the network — no separate drive sourcing or setup needed. For 12 channels, that capacity is typically enough for several weeks of archive at moderate motion activity.
Up to 20 accounts and two monitors
Support for up to 20 users lets you split access between security and administration, and two simultaneous video outputs let you route the feed to both a security post and a manager's office with no reconnecting through a network client.
A compact 255×222.7×49.5 mm housing
Housing dimensions of 255×222.7×49.5 mm and a weight of 1.4 kg make this recorder more compact than wired models with a large number of PoE ports — logically enough, since there's no internal electronics for distributing power to cameras here, just a Wi-Fi 6 radio module.
Who a wireless recorder genuinely suits
NVS12W suits an owner of a site where running cable is difficult or prohibited by a lease or heritage-protection terms, and who values the flexibility of placing cameras with no dependence on a cable route. If a site already has network cabling in place and running cable isn't a problem, a wired PoE model in the same lineup will give a more stable connection with no dependence on radio signal quality. Tell us how difficult running cable is at your site, how many cameras you're planning, and how far they'll sit from the recorder, and we can advise whether Wi-Fi 6 will handle your scenario.
