It runs from a 5 V adapter drawing about 6 W at roughly 1.2 A — essentially a phone-charger-sized brick — and sends video over dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi. That makes it fundamentally different from the battery-powered Argus and Go families: there is no cell inside, the camera never has to wake up for motion, it simply works as long as the socket has power. The compact cube body weighs 168 g at 99×91×60 mm, mounts on a small bracket and needs neither reinforced fixings nor a hole drilled for twisted pair. For this money you get a genuine outdoor camera with colour night vision, and the savings show up in two places: a plastic housing and an IP65 rather than IP67 rating.

Colour at night comes from the spotlight — what that buys and what it costs

Night mode on the Lumus is built around a built-in spotlight: when it fires, the camera records in colour, so you see the colour of a jacket, a car or a bag rather than a grey outline. Infrared illumination is there as well, but its reach is modest — around ten metres — so in IR mode the camera confidently covers a porch, a path or a garage entrance rather than the far corner of a plot. The spotlight triggers on motion and plays a double role: it produces the colour frame and simultaneously tells whoever is in the yard that they have been noticed, which ends a fair share of unwanted visits on the spot. The price comes in two inconveniences: white light at night is irritating when the camera faces windows, yours or a neighbour's, and in summer it gathers insects that fly through the beam and set off false detections. Footage goes to a microSD card of up to 256 GB, bought separately, and once the card is full the oldest files are overwritten, so the system needs no manual housekeeping. The arithmetic is worth doing in advance: recording continuously at 4 MP with H.264 consumes several tens of gigabytes per day, so a 128 GB card gives roughly two or three days of history and a 256 GB card about a week. If you need more depth, there are two routes: put the camera on a schedule, recording only at night or only during working hours, or send the stream to a recorder or an FTP server where space is not the constraint. The dual alarm combines spotlight and built-in siren, reacting instantly without waiting for you, and it is usually the sound that works better than the light once somebody is already at the door. A microphone and speaker provide two-way talk: you can hear what is happening and answer the person at the gate without opening the door, which is convenient for a courier and useful when the visit is unwelcome. Indoors it works just as well, in a small workshop, a corridor or a shop near the till, and the compact body does not look bulky there. IP65 covers dust and water jets but not prolonged immersion, so on an open façade the camera lasts longer under an eave than in the path of driving rain, and the power adapter must always be hidden in a sealed box because it has no protection rating at all.
