One detail that shop listings usually skip: at full 2560×1440 resolution the camera runs at 20 frames per second rather than 25, which becomes visible when you step through fast lateral movement frame by frame — 25 fps is only available at 1920×1080.

Infrared illumination up to 20 metres and a black-and-white night

The supplement light here is plain 850 nm EXIR infrared with an effective range of up to 20 metres; this model produces no white light and no colour night image by design. At night you get a monochrome picture: build, height and gait are readable, but the colour of a jacket or a car is not — and colour is precisely what people are asked for when an incident is reviewed. Twenty metres covers a mid-sized yard or a shop floor, so on a deeper plot the far end simply drops into darkness and the camera has to move closer to the area of interest or be paired with a second one. Smart Supplement Light dims the LEDs automatically when a subject comes close, so a face at the doorway does not burn out into a white blob — the classic failure of cheap cameras without that regulation. Minimum illumination of 0.01 lux at the fairly slow F2.2 aperture means the camera still holds colour mode under a street lamp or at dusk and only falls back to infrared in genuine darkness.

No memory card slot: this camera is designed to work with a recorder

There is no microSD slot in this model, and that is a detail to settle at the design stage rather than discover during installation. The camera cannot store the archive internally, so without a recorder it gives you a live image only, and whatever happens during a network outage is lost for good — there is no ANR function to backfill the gap from a card once the link returns. At 325 g and 109.9 mm in diameter it loads any standard bracket lightly, and the turret shape lets you aim the lens precisely after mounting while leaving no convenient lever for anyone who wants to twist the camera away by hand.

Where this camera belongs and which jobs it was built for

The model is at its best where continuous recording with decent detail is needed at short range: apartment building entrances and lobbies, office corridors, the floor of a small shop, the porch and entrance zone of a house, covered parking. The typical deployment is several of these cameras around an indoor perimeter plus a recorder in a utility room, which gives you a round-the-clock archive precise enough to reconstruct the timeline of a dispute, a theft or an insurance claim. Outdoors it works too — IP67 allows it — but with the twenty-metre illumination in mind: a yard with a driveway forty or fifty metres deep is not covered by one such camera at night. It is out of place in two situations: when you genuinely need real-time alerts on a person appearing, and when a number plate or a face has to be readable beyond ten metres. For a long fence or a through driveway it makes more sense to use a narrower 4 mm lens or a model with long-range illumination, and to keep DS-2CD1341G0-I on the close-in points where it genuinely performs.
