What the PV suffix actually does: the camera answers back

In Dahua naming, PV stands for active deterrence, and that single feature is the reason most buyers choose this model over a cheaper fixed camera. The housing carries both a warm white illuminator that can switch into a strobe lasting anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds at three selectable flash rates, and a loudspeaker that accepts your own recorded audio file instead of a generic siren. The sequence in real use is simple: the analytics classify a person inside the zone you marked as private, the light starts pulsing, and your own voice message plays — for example a line stating that the property is monitored and that a call has already been made. Most casual intrusions end right there, because someone who has just climbed a fence in the dark is rarely prepared to be spotlighted and addressed by name of the property. The honest downside is worth planning for: in dense housing the night-time announcement reaches your neighbours as well, which is why volume is adjustable from 0 to 100 percent and the number of repeats is set separately — tune both to the street you actually live on.

WizColor and a 1/1.8-inch sensor: colour at night instead of grey silhouettes

The camera uses a 4 MP sensor in the 1/1.8-inch format, which is a physically large chip for this price class, and pairs it with an F1.0 lens for sensitivity around 0.0005 lux — enough for a colour picture before any illuminator is even needed. WizColor means the camera does not fall back to the familiar black-and-white infrared mode after dark; instead it lights the scene with warm white LEDs out to about 30 metres and keeps full colour around the clock. That distinction matters most at the moment you have to show the footage to somebody: a silhouette in a dark jacket cannot be described in words, while a man in a red jacket who arrived in a silver sedan is an identification the police or an insurer can work with. The fixed 4 mm lens gives a 97-degree horizontal field of view, noticeably narrower than the common 2.8 mm option, and that trade works in your favour — pixel density per metre of scene is higher, so a face stays readable further from the camera. Zoom here is digital only, with no optical magnification, so you cannot pull a distant object closer without losing detail; that job is solved by choosing the mounting point well, not by zooming.

345 degrees of pan, 300 stored positions and automatic tracking

The motorised head pans across 345 degrees and tilts through 90 degrees, so the camera covers almost a full circle and can look from the horizon line straight down beneath itself. It stores up to 300 preset positions and up to eight patrol tours of 32 points each, which lets one unit walk a schedule around the gate, the garage door, the back yard and the bin area without anybody touching the app. Auto Tracking Lite lets the camera follow a detected person or vehicle by rotating the head until the subject leaves the area, rather than capturing only the instant of entry and then losing the event entirely. The fundamental compromise of any pan-tilt camera should be understood before buying: at any given moment it sees only the sector it is turned towards, and while the motor is following one person the rest of the property is effectively unrecorded. That is why a moving camera belongs on site as the active complement to two or three fixed cameras on the key approaches, and not as the only camera on the object.

WizSense, SMD 3.0 and IVS: alerts you will not end up switching off

WizSense analytics run on the camera processor itself, with no cloud service and no load on the recorder: SMD 3.0 separates people and vehicles from branches, shadows, rain and animals, while the IVS module adds tripwire and intrusion rules on top. The value is entirely in the filtering — a camera without object classification pushes a notification on every pixel change, the owner mutes those notifications somewhere in the second week, and from that point the system stops being security equipment and becomes an archive nobody watches. The same classification also drives the deterrence: light and voice fire according to object class, so the siren does not shout at a cat and does not wake the household because a bird crossed the frame. Built-in microphone and speaker add a second everyday use — talking to a courier or a neighbour through the app without opening the gate or walking outside. Note one real limitation: animal detection is not part of this model, so a dog or a cat registers simply as motion, and if you need a separate rule for animals this is not the camera to buy.

PoE power, housing protection and where the footage is stored

Power comes either from 12 V DC drawing roughly 0.8 A, or over PoE 802.3af on the same cable as the data, with consumption around 3.6 W at rest and up to 9.5 W at peak when the illuminator and the motor work together. The operating range of -30 to +55 degrees Celsius suits a Ukrainian winter, but keep in mind that the rotating head is the only moving part of the device, and in freezing rain it is far better off under an eave than on the open top of a mast. Recording goes to a microSD card of up to 256 GB, the stream is encoded with Smart H.265+, and integration runs over ONVIF, CGI and SDK — with a Dahua recorder that has PoE on board, such as the four-channel DHI-NVR1104HS-P-S3/H or the eight-channel DHI-NVR1108HS-8P-S3/H, the camera comes up with almost no configuration.

Where to mount it and the jobs it is genuinely built for

This model exists for one clear task: to actively guard an area where nobody is supposed to be at night. Typical sites are the yard of a private house, a driveway with a parking apron, a small warehouse or vehicle service yard, a shop courtyard with a loading bay, a machinery park or a building site with materials lying out. The sweet spot for mounting height is around three to four metres: higher and the camera looks at the top of people heads and reads faces poorly, lower and it is easy to knock aside or cover. For a flat, an office or a sales floor the model is overkill — a 30-metre warm illuminator blinds indoors, voice warnings are out of place, and indoor scenes rarely need a rotating head, where a fixed dome is the more sensible answer. It is also the wrong choice for reading licence plates at a distance: a fixed 4 mm lens with digital zoom will not do that job, and a driveway lane needs narrower or varifocal optics instead.
