DigiTOP VP-50A M2R voltage relay (50A, red indicator)

Winter, evening, the house has underfloor heating, the boiler is heating, dinner is being prepared in the kitchen on the electric stove. It is in winter that the load on the single-phase input reaches its peak, and it is then that 50 A protection becomes not a "back-up", but a daily necessity. VP-50A M2R is a version of this relay with a red status indicator; in terms of protection, current and the entire electrical part, it is completely identical to the M2W model.

Thresholds and reaction speed

The relay continuously measures voltage in the range of 50–400 V. The upper shutdown threshold is adjustable within 210–270 V, the lower one is 120–200 V. Overvoltage — the most dangerous case for electronics — is cut off in 0.02 seconds. At reduced voltage in the range of 120–170 V, the relay intentionally withstands a second so as not to react to short-term dips that are safe for equipment; below 120 V, it switches off again instantly. Zero transit monitors the break of the neutral conductor — an accident in which, without protection, everything burns out at once.

Resource and reliability

A voltage relay is a device that has been in a panel for years and is triggered, perhaps, a few times a year, so its reliability is subject to special requirements. Color, installation and common mistake

The red indicator is a matter of convenience: in a panel with several relays for different groups, it allows you to find the desired device at a glance, even in a poorly lit panel room. The color does not affect the functionality. Standard installation - DIN rail, 2 modules of 17.5 mm, place immediately behind the input machine. And a traditional warning that saves you from unnecessary calling the master: before the first turn on, make sure that the phase and zero are connected to the correct terminals. Why are relays selected for the winter peak?

An important detail that is often forgotten: the load on the switchboard strongly depends on the season. In the summer, air conditioners work, but in the winter, underfloor heating, an electric boiler or heaters are added to them, the boiler heats up longer due to cold incoming water, and the stove is turned on more often. Therefore, the relay rating and the cross-section of the input cable are calculated specifically for the winter peak scenario, and not for comfortable spring indicators. A relay selected "for the summer" risks becoming a bottleneck on the coldest days of the year - when reliable power supply is needed most. Cheaper insurance than the consequences

If you compare the cost of a voltage relay with the price tag of a modern electric stove, a refrigerator with an inverter compressor, or a gas boiler with an electronic board, it becomes obvious: the relay pays for itself with just one averted accident. At the same time, it is compact, does not consume noticeable energy, and does not require attention for years. This is exactly the case when a small amount invested insures against costs that are an order of magnitude higher.
