Description Solplanet ASW5120-LB-E

The Solplanet ASW5120-LB-E 5 kWh LiFePO4 battery is a low-voltage energy storage module for modern solar power plants and backup power systems. It is built on LiFePO₄ cells with a nominal capacity of 5.12 kWh, a useful energy of about 4.6 kWh, a voltage of 51.2 V and a current of 100 A, which corresponds to a continuous power of up to 5.12 kW and short-term peaks of up to 10.24 kW. Such a power reserve allows the module to easily pull the starting currents of pumps, refrigerators, air conditioners and other "heavy" consumers.

Design and technology

The module belongs to the Ai-LB-E series, which is specially designed as part of battery energy storage systems (BESS) for residential and commercial facilities and optimized to work with Solplanet hybrid inverters.

Key technical features:

  • LiFePO₄ (LFP) chemistry – increased safety, thermal stability, resistance to overheating;

  • capacity 100 A·h, nominal energy 5.12 kW·h, useful – about 4.6 kW·h at 90% DOD;

  • battery operating voltage range 43.2–57.6 V;

  • recommended charge/discharge current 60 A, maximum – 100 A;

  • resource of over 6000 cycles with proper operation (80% DOD), cycle efficiency ≥95%.

The built-in battery management system (BMS) monitors each cell, is responsible for balancing, protection against overvoltage, deep discharge, overcurrent and overheating. It is the BMS that makes the module “smart” – it communicates with the inverter via CAN, transmits the state of charge, temperature and diagnostics, which simplifies the setup of the entire system.

Module for building large battery banks

The ASW5120-LB-E is a basic 5-kilowatt (5.12 kWh) module that is used as a “building block” for a set of higher capacity and power systems. A single unit can contain up to 8 such modules, and up to four units can be combined in parallel - the total capacity approaches 160+ kWh.

In practice, this means:

  • 1 module (5.12 kWh) – small apartment, cottage, IT equipment, boiler, lighting;

  • 2–4 modules (10.24–20.48 kWh) – private house, cottage, office, shop;

  • 8+ modules – mini-hotel, restaurant, warehouse, part of an industrial facility.

This way, you initially install one module, and as consumption increases or additional panels appear, you simply add new ones - without completely replacing the system.

    LiFePO₄ is one of the most reliable chemistries for stationary systems: it is not prone to thermal acceleration, is more resistant to overcharging, and tolerates cycling better. This is important when the battery is located in a house or technical room and is used daily.

    You need more capacity – add one or two more modules. The infrastructure (inverter, automation, cabling) with a competent design already takes into account the possibility of expansion, so the modernization looks simple: hang another battery, register it in the BMS and inverter – and the system is ready.

  5. Low losses and minimal consumption in standby mode
    Cycle efficiency ≥95% and standby power consumption ≤1W means that energy is not wasted in the battery. This is especially noticeable in stand-alone systems with low daily output.

Recommended usage scenarios

  • Backup power for a house or apartment.
    The battery supports the operation of lighting, heating circulation pumps, boiler, refrigerator, router, work PC or server during outages.

  • Daily work with a solar power plant.
    During the day, the battery is charged by the solar power plant, and in the evening, it delivers energy to the house. This reduces consumption from the grid, allows you to partially or completely block the night load and make better use of the plant's output on cloudy days.

  • Tariff optimization.
    In systems with zone tariffs, the battery is charged at night, when electricity is cheaper, and during the day it covers the house's consumption, reducing the cost of the expensive peak tariff.

  • Small business, office, retail outlets.
    Stable power supply for cash registers, POS terminals, servers, security systems and video surveillance. A network outage will not paralyze the work of a store or office, and the client may not even notice that a failure has occurred.

  • Hybrid systems with a generator.
    The battery takes on peak loads, the generator operates more stably and for fewer hours, reducing noise, fuel consumption and maintenance costs.

Installation conditions and recommendations

ASW5120-LB-E is designed for indoor installation (protection level IP20). Floor, wall or rack mounting is allowed.

Main recommendations:

  • install in a dry room without condensation, away from heat sources and direct sunlight;

  • ensure natural air convection around the case – do not clamp the battery in a sealed cabinet;

  • observe operating temperatures: charge from +2 to +58 °C, discharge from –18 to +58 °C;

  • provide protective automation for the DC circuit (circuit breaker/fuse, contactor, overvoltage protection) according to the project;

  • Installation, connection and parameterization must be performed by a qualified electrician with experience in working with 48 V systems and hybrid inverters.

The battery case weighs about 43 kg, so the wall mount must be designed with a margin of strength, and the floor must be flat and rigid.

What problems does this battery solve?
