GoodWe GW8000-ES-C10 - single-phase, 8kW hybrid inverter, with generator support
Description GoodWe GW8000-ES-C10
GoodWe GW8000-ES-C10 is a single-phase low-voltage hybrid inverter (48V) designed for home and small commercial systems with battery, backup power and generator connection. The ES Uniq series supports both “on-grid” and weak grid/microgrid scenarios, and also allows system expansion by paralleling multiple inverters.
Key technologies and benefits
-
2 MPPT trackers and flexible PV architecture. For GW8000-ES-C10, 2 MPPT and 3 strings (2/1 per MPPT) are declared, MPPT range 60–550 V, maximum PV voltage 600 V, as well as PV oversizing up to 200% (relevant for modern modules, in particular the 182 mm form factor). The maximum PV power for this model is up to 16 kW.
-
“UPS-like” backup and stable operation under load. The datasheet indicates a UPS switching level of <10 ms , and the series page states <4 ms (depending on version/conditions). For the backup output, a short-term high overload capacity is also claimed (the datasheet for 8 kW gives a peak of up to 16 kVA for 10 s).
-
Safety and reliability. IP66 housing, optional AFCI (arc circuit breaker), built-in typical electrical protection and string monitoring.
-
3-in-1 port (generator / smart loads / off-grid PV). ES Uniq materials highlight the 3-in-1 port for generator and managed load integration, as well as support for microgrid scenarios.
Working with batteries: power, modes, compatibility
The inverter works with 48-volt batteries (Li-ion and lead-acid), has CAN communication with BMS and 1 battery input. Battery voltage range 40–60 V. Maximum charge power is 8.0 kW, discharge power is 8.8 kW, and maximum continuous charge/discharge currents are 160 A. Also important note: at high PV voltage (above ~490 V), the battery charge/discharge power may be limited.
Which batteries are compatible (examples from the official list)
GoodWe publishes a separate battery compatibility document. For ES Uniq (8–12 kW), the list includes:
-
BYD Battery-Box (Pro/Res/LV and other series variations)
-
LG RESU LV (RESU 6.5/10/12/13 etc.)
-
Pylontech (US2000/US3000, Force L1/L2; some models depend on firmware)
-
As well as a number of other brands (Dyness, Tecloman, etc.) - depending on the market and software versions.
Separately, GoodWe indicates that the ES Uniq can be combined with branded Lynx A and Lynx U batteries. For Lynx Home U, capacity scaling is claimed to be approximately 5.4–32.4 kWh (depending on configuration).
Generator support: what is connected and what power
The GW8000-ES-C10 supports operation with a single-phase 220/230/240 V AC generator in the input voltage range of 170–280 V and frequency of 50/60 Hz (tolerance 45–55 / 55–65 Hz). According to the GoodWe datasheet for this model:
-
rated power from the generator: 8.0 kVA
-
maximum (short-term) power from the generator: 8.8 kVA
-
max. current from generator: 50 A
In practice, this means compatibility with most household gasoline/diesel/gas single-phase generators with adequate voltage/frequency stabilization (AVR or inverter type — preferably for sensitive electronics). For a system where the generator must not only “keep the house running,” but also charge the battery, a model with a kVA margin for peak loads and charging currents is usually selected.
Table: “Parameters on the side of the generator” for GW8000-ES-C10
(according to GoodWe technical data)
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Rated apparent power from the generator | 8.0 kVA |
| Maximum apparent power from the generator | 8.8 kVA |
| Rated input voltage | 220 / 230 / 240 V |
| Input voltage range | 170 – 280 V |
| Rated frequency | 50 / 60 Hz |
| Frequency range | 45–55 / 55–65 Hz |
| Maximum current from the generator | 50.0 A |
| Rated current from the generator | 36.4 A (220 V) / 34.8 A (230 V) / 33.3 A (240 V) |
Scenarios and application conditions
-
House/cottage with frequent outages: PV + batteries cover basic consumption, backup output keeps critical lines running (lighting, pump, router, refrigerator).
-
Hybrid “grid + sun + generator”: the generator is used as a backup during long outages and to recharge the battery when there is not enough sun.
-
Weak grid / microgrid: the series is positioned as a solution with micro-grid capability and a 3-in-1 port for flexible management of sources and loads.
Integration with Home Assistant and openHAB
Home Assistant. There is an official integration of GoodWe Inverter into Home Assistant: it often works with inverters that comply with GoodWe protocols and are accessible via the local network (typically UDP port 8899, as in the case of working with official applications).
Additionally, the ES Uniq datasheet directly mentions Modbus-RTU and Modbus-TCP, which simplifies connection via standard Modbus mechanisms (depends on available RS485/LAN/Wi-Fi interfaces and dongle configuration).
openHAB. There are two typical approaches for openHAB:
-
SEMSPortal Binding — pulls up statistics via the SEMS/GoodWe portal (usually read-only, via the Internet).
-
Local integration via UDP/local GoodWe protocols is actively discussed in the openHAB community (the principle of operation via UDP port 8899 is mentioned).
Installation and scaling (parallel)
The inverter housing is designed for wall mounting, has IP66, “smart” fan cooling, weighs about 27 kg and dimensions of 560 × 444.5 × 226 mm — a convenient format for installation in a boiler room/technical room or under a canopy (in compliance with the manufacturer's requirements).
An application (SolarGo/SEMS monitoring) is usually used for setup, which speeds up commissioning, but connecting power lines and protections should be entrusted to a qualified electrician.
Parallel operation. The datasheet mentions parallel up to 16 inverters, but on the official series page — up to 6 inverters (the limit probably depends on the region, certifications, firmware and system diagram). In practice, scaling should be checked with the current manual for a specific market and project.
