GoodWe inverters are the core of modern solar power systems for homes and small businesses. They convert PV energy into standard 230/400 V AC, manage consumption, battery charging/discharging, backup power, and energy flows between available sources. The GoodWe portfolio covers multiple inverter types—from classic grid-tie systems to hybrid solutions with storage and optional generator support.
GoodWe inverter types and purpose
-
On-grid (grid-tie) inverters — for PV systems without batteries. The goal is to harvest PV energy efficiently and reduce grid consumption.
-
Hybrid (energy storage) inverters — for PV + battery systems. They charge the battery during the day, power the home in the evening, and provide backup power during outages.
-
Energy management & automation-ready solutions — for “smart consumption” scenarios: load priorities, import/export control, tariff-based logic, EV charging, water heater or heat pump control.
Use cases: what GoodWe solves in real life
-
Home energy independence: maximize self-consumption, minimize grid import, keep critical loads running during blackouts.
-
Quiet residential installation: some series use passive cooling (natural convection), which helps keep operation quiet—important when the inverter is installed close to living areas (with proper ventilation and installation clearances).
-
Tariff optimization: charge the battery in off-peak hours and use stored energy in the evening; automate load priorities to improve savings.
Smart home integrations: Home Assistant, OpenHUB/openHAB, Domoticz and more
-
Home Assistant: integration can expose inverter data on the local network as sensors (PV power, grid import/export, battery status, alarms), enabling automations and Energy Dashboard tracking.
-
openHAB (OpenHUB): rules and dashboards can be built using monitored data via supported APIs/cloud monitoring where applicable.
-
Domoticz: community plugins/scripts can publish key values as devices/sensors for triggers and visualization.
-
Other platforms: Node-RED, MQTT gateways, third-party controllers. Many projects rely on Modbus RTU/TCPdepending on model and communication module.
Monitoring and mobile apps
GoodWe provides monitoring with connectivity via Wi-Fi / LAN / 4G (depending on configuration). Users typically access mobile apps and a web portal to track production, consumption, import/export, battery parameters, event history, notifications, and basic configuration/diagnostics.
Generator support: how it works + supported models
In areas with weak or unstable grids, a hybrid solar system is often complemented by a generator. A common setup is PV + battery + grid + generator, where the generator acts as an additional source when PV is insufficient and the battery is low, or when reliable power is required for extended periods.
ES G2 models that support generator operation (Generator compatibility):
-
GW3000-ES-20
-
GW3600-ES-20 / GW3600M-ES-20
-
GW5000-ES-20 / GW5000M-ES-20
-
GW6000-ES-20 / GW6000M-ES-20
Generator functionality can also be available in other GoodWe series (including higher-power solutions), depending on the wiring scheme and the manufacturer’s configuration options.
Scalability: parallel operation
To increase total power and strengthen backup capability, selected GoodWe series support parallel operation. This is a practical way to scale the system over time—adding capacity for heating, pumps, a workshop, or future home expansion without replacing the entire setup.
