IMOU Cruiser Triple 11MP: an honest review of a multi-lens camera for outdoor surveillance

IMOU Cruiser Triple 11MP is a really interesting camera that tries to solve one of the most common problems of rotating models: when the PTZ lens rotates behind a person, the rest of the territory remains unattended. Here the manufacturer went a different way - put three independent lenses, and it works much better than it seems at first glance.

How the three-lens system works

Two side lenses are fixed, they constantly "look" at their zones and give a wide panorama (together it turns out about 270° horizontally). The central module is a 5 MP rotating one, with an automatic tracking function. While it is tracking a suspicious object, the fixed cameras continue to monitor the rest of the territory. No blind spots while driving is the main feature of the model.

The total resolution is 11 megapixels (3 MP on fixed + 5 MP on PTZ). The image is very detailed: in practice, it is easy to distinguish a person's face from 15–20 meters away or read a car license plate at the entrance.

Smart features that actually work

Artificial intelligence is not for show here. The camera is good at distinguishing people and cars from swaying branches or cats running around the yard. There are significantly fewer false alarms than many budget models. There is an active tracking function - if someone enters the zone, the rotating lens automatically adjusts and follows the movement.

At night, everything is on par: in low light, the full-color mode with LED backlighting is activated, in complete darkness, the classic IR mode up to 30 meters. Plus, there is two-way audio: you can talk to the courier or loudly warn an uninvited guest.

Reliability and installation

The case is all-metal, IP66 protection - rain, snow, frost down to -30°C or heat +60°C are not terrible for the camera. Installation is simple: it is mounted on a wall, ceiling or even a pole. Connection via Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi 6 is supported) or via Ethernet cable. Power supply is standard 12 V, but there are versions with PoE.

Video can be stored on a card up to 512 GB (officially stated 256, but many people put larger ones), in the IMOU cloud, or on an NVR.

Where is such a camera especially useful?

Private house or cottage . One camera is enough to cover two sides of the yard + entrance. Fixed lenses look at the parking lot and garden, and the rotating one watches the gate.
Parking lots and commerce . Reads license plates well, controls a large area.
Multi-apartment courtyards and condominiums . Instead of several conventional cameras, you can install one or two of these and cover the playground, entrance, and parking lot at the same time.

Integration with Ajax, Home Assistant and OpenHAB

The camera is compatible with Ajax without any problems — it is added via RTSP stream. The Ajax application shows live video, and when an alarm is triggered by a motion sensor, the camera recording is immediately opened. Very convenient for verification — you can immediately see if the threat is real.

Integration with Home Assistant is also simple: there are ready-made components for IMOU, you can display images on the dashboard, create automations (for example, turn on the light when the camera sees a person at the gate), and send photos to Telegram.

OpenHAB also supports rotation control, motion detection as a trigger for other devices via ONVIF.

What is the result?

IMOU Cruiser Triple 11MP is one of the few cameras that really combines a wide view and active surveillance without compromise. If you need to monitor a large area and don’t want to install several regular cameras, this is one of the best options on the market right now. Of course, it’s not perfect (the cloud is paid, Wi-Fi can be unstable over long distances), but it offers a lot of useful features for the money.
